This was a bug that should be fixed now in trunk. Could you confirm

Interesting that this file does not have any password information but I
still was able to register, so looks like until pointers exist FS keeps
user data in db.

It shouldn't be cache
What SVN Rev are you using and did you remove the the pointers from
the groups in the directory also?
