Now that everyone has taken the time to slow down, take everything in and
express themselves more clearly, I now have a better understanding of everyone
else as well. I thank you all for your input and responses.
I understand about the time limitations but I have those same limits as well.
Between my day job, cleaning my apartment, doing laundry, food (shopping and
cooking), helping to plan my daughter's wedding and getting what exercise I
can, I still find time to develop software, maintain a group of websites, make
phone calls and answer e-mails. It's part of modern life. This I truly
understand but sacrificing communication for the sake of maintaining a
high-speed life is a waste of time, energy and resources.
My development philosophy has never been "just get something out there that
works." I despise that kind of development. M$ is a prime example of that
with OSes that have security holes big enough to send Rome's 5th Legion
through. I have always been a firm believer in releasing fully tested (well,
as fully tested as possible) code. This is why it takes me a fair bit of time
to build something and then release it. I build, I streamline, I test, I fix,
I streamline, I test. Only after this is repeated several times does the code
get released. This philosophy and the underlying works will not change.
Dischi, your name is inside so many of the modules and plugins that it's
amazing. I probably mistook the your mark showing you to have made the latest
change to mean you were the original author. My bad. I'm sorry if I offended
you. It certainly wasn't my intention to offend.
With everyone's comments taken into account and, I hope, everyone having a
better understanding of me and my ideas, I'll go ahead with the "sixmixer"
however, I'll be merging it into the current volume control plugin for the
idlebar, "volume.py" I think it's called... Not sure. This way, we all get a
unified control that can hopefully make it's way into v2.0. I'll also try to
make it intelligent so that it detects which way your sound system is
configured so it displays the correct number of zones. If possible, I'll see
what I can do about building a true mixing plugin since everyone seemed to be
so geeked about that.
With all that said, can we stick to one arrangement, please? If you change
the direction of a thread, please change the subject line. This will help
everyone follow along much easier. I think someone made those comments once
before. I can multitask with the best of them except when it comes to
communications; so, please, one conversation at a time guys.
Thanks guys!

I had no intention to be harsh in any way. My only concern was the impact and
thus progress of 1.x (there was a fork proposed somewhere). I have no opinion
on the functionality you proposed, and indeed, I didn't read your proposal in
detail because my time is limited too. I can hardly find the time to get my
xine-ui modifications done and accepted and then there is that ivtv_xine_tv
plugin that still has some open feature requests.
As with many OS projects, people tend to just implement what they have in
mind. Show it to the community and if it's fit for purpose, it'll be included
in the release. Otherwise it can always be offered as an optional download.
Regards,
Richard.
