Rob was working on a unified way to manage channel selection in different
media player/recorders for 1.
Good!
BTW, mandrake has urpmi, something like apt-get/emerge. The problem is
that users may set the PLF package source and some don't do that. Other
problem is that not every package we need are there... I migrated to
Gentoo and there are few months that I didn't checked out, maybe

hmm. I wanted to get Aug 12 version so I can patch it with Streamzap.

I am trying to send commands to freevo via udp... it crashes both versions

here is the output

I'm not sure to be honest, because I haven't used it in awhile (I
bought an ivtv card) and I almost am not sure if python allows you to
chain commands together in the VCR_CMD using ';' between commands.

Hi Aubin,
Actually, I installed xawtv-control, and I think I can
control channel changing using 'v4lctl' to do the
channel changing. Here is my VCR_CMD now:
--- VCR_CMD ---
VCR_CMD = ('/usr/bin/v4lctl setnorm NTSC; ' +
'/usr/bin/v4lctl setchannel %(channel)s; '
+
'/usr/loca
Replying to this back to the freevo-users list since the thread could be
useful to others.
The acitsys IR blaster might not work well with echostar boxes, at least
I've read that on a few occasions. My code is now in CVS but requires
some more additions to hook it into Freevo for everyone else
No, the schedulerec thing was just my hack because I did manual
recordings so often.
Basically, it was this:
echo q | mplayer -vo null -ao null tv://$1
With the rest of the mplayer TV options in there somewhere.
It changes the channel and then quits.

I've seen this on occaison.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Play a song
2. Press 'DISPLAY' to detach
3. Do something for a bit
4. Go back and hit "Show Player"
The graphics end up garbled with on the elapsed time and song title
displayed.

You can make a favourite using the web interface, it allows you to
filter on day, hour, etc.

I am currently working on centralizing all of the channel changing for
Freevo. This will let us use Freevo's channel list, frequency tables,

That would be your 'schedulerec' script. correct? If
so, I did a search for that on both the Users and
Devel archives, but no luck (I did find references to

I have mplayer installed and working fine, both with gui and the command
line versions. MPGs play well, using X11 video. Audio also works.
When I select one of the MPGs to play from within Freevo, I can hear the
movie playing but I cannot see it. Instead, I get a blank (black)
window.
Any idea

Thanks for the info, 3 dummy functions solved my problem and the plugin
works. I will post it to the list when it's ready.
However, I've changed my mind. I want the three menu items to appear in
the Image section of freevo (not when ENTER a directory as now). I
looked at the webradio-plugin (which
Hi,
This is probably a stupid question, but how do I disable the screen
blanker of X?
I boot into X and freevo (without windowmanager). In the xinitrc I have:
#!/bin/sh
#
xset -dpms
xset s off
sudo -H -u freevo sh -c "cd ~/freevo;./freevo"
halt

The sudo part runs the binary version of freevo a

hmmm
you're doing better than me - I've spent the last week trying to get
this card going properly. It all goes fine, but I can't get any sound
out of the tuner.
I'm using the saa 0.2.8 driver, but I get no audio at all out of the
audio-out on the capture card. In the end I've had to go with feed
Ok, it appears mplayer does something kookie and my changes to
frequencies.c didn't take effect... so I learned some python in a hurry...
Here are the changes which will make 1.4rc1 work in New Zealand... note
that this is a nasty hack and someone who actually understands this stuff

Is there an easy way to have freevo record a show every day at the same

Hi,
same problem as always. It's easy to install Freevo on Gentoo and
Debian because they both can resolve the deps. RPM doesn't have that
feature. What about an install script with the following content:
1. Check distro type (SuSE, Redhat, Mandrake)
2. Check version of the distro (RedHat 9.0 vs
Ahh... appears the mplayer/mencoders and tvtimes channel numbering systems
are not quite the same...
(MEncoder Channel ID)+1=TVTime Channel ID.
The easiest fix is probably to alter freevo to pass (channel+1) to the
VCR_CMD, but I really don't know any Python so I've gone with the harder
solution
I've actually struck another problem... it seems that the channel list
that mencoder uses is somewhat different from tvtime...
Upshot is that I can now browse the guide happily, and can watch live tv,
but when I try to record I get a recording of the wrong channel. (usually
one that doesn't actu

No. If you mean lirc is broken, just use the latest release, it should
work fine. If you have problems with cvs itself -- *sigh* yes sf cvs
haha - that did the trick. cheers for that. now I'm kicking myself for
not thinking of doing it.
Now I just need to work out to interface this thing with my sky machine
