One of the steps in freevo setup says this about lirc:
o make sure to create the /dev/lirc and /dev/lircd devices
I know about making directories and file but not devices.
All the devices I ever needed were present.

2 Years ago Krister released the version version of Freevo. I'm proud
to announce the first release candidate for 1.5.0 today. Much changed
between Freevo 1.0 and the current release -- but not so much between
pre1 and rc1 of 1.5.0.

I'm using fxd files to describe video files.
The fxd files are created by video.imdb plugin.
The user running freevo doesn't have write permissions on video
directories, the .fxd file then goes to ~/.freevo/vfs/video-dir/
I can see the cover, the tagline and the description as expected
