The solution turned out to be pretty simple. I needed to add plugin.activate('ossmixer') to local_conf.py. Could this be a default? With or without the above line, I still see the following error message whenever I start Freevo. $ freevo can't locate plugin mixer

From looking through the source code, it does not look like VIDEO_SHOW_DATA_DIR defaults to anything (my apologies if I'm wrong). My experimentation seems to demonstrate otherwise. Before running Freevo, I run... amixer set Line mute v4lctl volume mute off I then run Freevo and watch some TV. I do not hear sound. I run... amixer set Line unmute I hear sound. I then exit Freevo. I still hear sound.

Just for the record, I got it working. What I did was to edit the /etc/freevo/local_conf.py and set the VIDEO_ITEMS to a name, and then pointed it to the directory with my video...e.g. [ ('Local Movies', '/root/Movies/') ] . Now when I select Watch a Movie, it goes directly to that folder and
