Sorry to bother but isn't it possible that the quality in 1024 isn't bether than 800 or 640 but that 800 and 640 are yust worse? That sounds silly but I know that some old S3 cards on vga at low resolution have a blury image and not at high resolution so the above could related due to the used tv-encoder hardware on some types of nvidia cards. 1024 was available since version 1.0-8178 but the latest 8756 did changed the colors a bit.
