Hi list, Does anyone here watch HDTV with AC3 passthrough? I am having problems with mplayer giving jittery sound before actually crashing out when I use the AC3 pid of a dvb stream. I have googled till my fingers bled and noticed many people have the same problem, but have not as yet come across a solution.
DVB recordings with AC3 (TS) give the same symptoms, however, if I use avidemux, I can detect the AC3 stream and convert the ts to another format (mpeg or avi), which plays back perfectly. I can play dvd's and other formats with ac3 sound perfectly. My amp shows a light when dolby digital is detected. During play or playback of an ac3 digital stream, this light comes on and off showing that the passthrough is jittery. CPU does not appear to be strained and playback of non ac3 streams is perfect. After trying a heap of things, my current mplayer command is ; 'dvb' : '-tsprobe 7000000 -cache 8192 -format 512 -ao alsa:device=hw#0.3 -ac hwac3,', If anyone successfully watches DVB with ac3 passthrough, I would be most interested and appreciative to hear how you have done it.
