O.k., I could come up with a solution on my own so just in case s.o. encounters a similar problem. I simply deinstalled xdm and removed the symbolic links of freevo from the /etc/rc?.d directories with "update-rc.d -f freevo remove". Then I simply followed the steps as decribed in this wiki's "
