i have written a simple programm that starts freevo as a real daemon
during startup. This has the advantage, that freevo doesn't block
during execution and is ready to use at every time. It runs with all the
other daemon like samba, mpd etc. in parallel without any problems and

currently this machine (EPIA-M10K) is being used as a standalone box
running Freevo on Gentoo.
I've made it such that /etc/init.d/local will start freevo during
bootup, as in the settings below.
Now, I noticed that it's running as root and I don't quite like that. I
need some pointers

Try putting 'su - $username -c' before your 'freevo -fs' line.
