Well, downgrading to 8762 solved the problem! - TV is in full resolution
now! Through now it seems like my main CRT is refreshing weird. Vertical
refresh rate is still as before, but it more tiring to the eye...., smth
with screen redraw... Well, you can't have it all I guess :).

Thanks, Brian. I checked the settings you mentioned - have all of them in
place. Also confirmed by the X log that correct resolution is being
selected.

But interestingly I stumbled across the thread which mentions my problem:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=82141

Other people have the same problem (half resolution lost on TV-out /
interlace displayed incorrectly) with the particular version of NVidia
legacy driver: 9631 (this one is newer). The old one - 8762 - seems to
work
fine for people - will check it tomorrow:

----- QUOTE FROM THE THREAD ----
>> When I switched from 8762 to 9625 and every version from that point on,
TV out is no longer displayed in full interlace.
>> Instead of getting both odd and even fields, just one of the fields is
displayed for both fields and the result is a halving of the visible
resolution.
------ END OF QUOTE -------

What NVidia driver version are you guys using? I'm using 9631 for my MX
440
nvidia card and according to the thread this seems to be the problem.....

Are you sure you're using the right options in your xorg.conf file
?
        I've got an older nvidia (iirc it's an mx400 32mb w/s-video out)
running nvidia's proprietary driver (not sure of the version) it
runs
freevo 1.7 fine.Aside form adjusting the overscan to make the
picture
        fit the screen I didn't change a thing.I did use a preconfigured
xorg.conf on it I've been using for ages. The box it's in is a
setup
for my mom which I don't have access to unless I drive over there
(no inet).I'll post the relevant portions of my xorg.conf in the
hope it
        might help.

My guess is maybe you don't have the right option or resolution
set
for your TV if it's North American then you have to use the NTSC-M
option. From the nvidia drivers docs ...

o The "TVStandard" option should be added to your screen

        valid values are:
