Thanks for the tip! It worked, I do not have clue how did I missed this ;)
Probably assumed that svn allways have some fixes in it and installed it
over emerged versions without giving a try.
So I emerged what gentoo portage offered and it works fine for now:
kaa-base-0.6.0

* Stopping Freevo webserver ...
webserver not running
[ ok ]
* Stopping Freevo recordserver ...
recordserver not running
[ ok ]

Browsing the media library gives this traceback. Freevo is configured to
run the webserver as the freevo user but I run freevo itself as root.
WEBSERVER_PORT = 8080
WEBSERVER_UID=77
WEBSERVER_GID=77
I started the webserver from the command line with freevo webserver start
