I added 4:3 aspect to both xine and mplayer to skip them from creating
black-borders. (wich sounds odd, adding 4:3 for an 16:9 display, but it

My tv-out chip only does 640x480 and 800x600 so that's not going to do

I just set everything at 16:9 including X11, freevo and mplayer.

Your new TV should have either a dvi (hdmi) or vga input if you use
those (and your video card can handle it) you can run at any
resolution (I'm using 1280x720). But I have the same problem as you,
freevo is streched I was able to fix mplayer with -monitoraspect
