I've been using 2-factor for Google and its worked well so far.

More of the more sophisticated sites are using this now.  Downside is that
they don't use a common authenticator app, the depend on sending you SMSs.
 Doesn't work well in europe etc because I change to local phone numbers
there.

Google has a pin generator app for the phone that works fine in europe, and
they also give you 10 one-time passwords for when you are not connected.
