Speaking of playing DVD's, can you put a DVD or Combo drive in a
clamshell iBook? Looking at maybe getting a tangerine iBook, but would
like to have DVD playing ability, or even better the Combo drive.
Thanks!

I believe, you can't.
The iBook don't have a DVD Decoding card, so if you
add a DVD Drive, it will NOT play the movies (for DVD
Playback without DVD Decoders, you need a G3 500mhz or
faster).
Also, the Fastest Clamshell iBook was the 466mhz (the
Grey one), but it has a DVD Drive so you should
I've had an occasional and strange sound issue where in X and 9, the sound I
O on my Pismo seems completely disabled. Somehow, near as I can tell, it
is locked into the modem. Then I do a combo of Mac Janitor, permission
repairs, and reassign sound source to cd...that works...what gives?

That is a production part number of the printed circuit board. The ser# is
visible inside the PC card slot door.
To get to the lower RAM slot, you have to pull the processor board, just
as
on the others of the series. Just remove the heat sink and it is visible.
Okay, the last message send out about moving files all around and
re-installing X is a convoluted way of doing an archive install.
Despite its name, there is no archiving. I'm getting ahead of myself.
I recently had a similar problem where I got the ? of death and it
wouldn't even boot to a CD
It's the same thing.
I made my own way, because I had a small HD on my
PowerMac and I needed more space to make an install.
So removing the System files, the Disc will have more
space to make a new install.

The iBook 366 can play MPEG4 movies fine full screen. That's more
computing than playing a DVD with MPEG2 I'm sure. Go figure.

Do you have an ATI Card or a NVIDIA one?
I'm pretty sure all machines of the PB G4 / 400 have a an ATI Rage
Mobility 128 (AGP 2X) with 8 MB of SDRAM.
I undersand that ATI uses another channel for the
Video.
Did you mean for the movie stream? Or did you actually

Pismo's (and 400 Lombard's) ATI display hardware _does_ include a
built-in hardware DVD decoder.
What about the Titanium Powerbooks?

Since the overlay effectively bypasses the video card, if you take the

But why would this be the case for PLAYING THE DVD on an external screen,

Greetings Lista's,
I am running 10.3.4 on a Pismo and am trying to add a PLW NTR

unit hooked up according to the directions but have absolutely no idea
how to add the NTR as an available printer in 10.3.4 When I go to
Well, on OS 9 the Lombard can too, but using the Video
Card.
On OS X and with the ATI card unsupported at all, a G3
400 can't do that.
