Hello G-Books list,
I'm a long time user of lowendmac but new to the list. I'm wondering if anyone has experience or second-hand knowledge of the Avanti 400Mhz G3 upgrade cards for the Wallstreet II from Wegener Media. I've seen announcements on lowendmac and other sites but few evaluations, in particular, using Mac OS X Jaguar or Panther (with XPostFacto or another trick I've heard mentioned). I am currently using a stock 266Mhz, 320MB, 6GB HD with XPostFacto easily allowing Mac 10.3.5 to run surprisingly well on the machine (using the ATIRagePro kext files extracted from 10.2.5 as often suggested.) The $119 price tag is attractive for my budget and the possible speed gains the machine is used for word processing, browsing, and email so the $350 G4 Sonnet Crescendo WS still is justified for my budget.
Any opinions on the Avanti cards? Also, Wegener Media offers a 1 year warranty that I'm sure would be voided if one were installing Panther. Have you dealt with the company before? The page for the upgrade doesn't even load the rollover menu images on the left... are they reputable?
