Question 1: So my PBG4/400 is sick. A couple of days ago it started crashing excessively. The whole OS X screen just freezes. This all started the day after I updated to 10.1.5, but I think it's coincidence. It's also making a quiet, high pitched noise, sometimes a whir, and sometimes a squeal. Sometimes it makes a click when shutting down now, as well.
All Techtool Pro 3 hardware tests pass. Norton and Techtool Disk catalog tests failed, but couldn't repair. At that point I formatted the drive and reinstalled 10.1.5. The crashing has remained and the noise is persisting. The HD catalog corruption has returned twice, I have been been able to fix it with Disk Warrior. I am getting about 1 to 30 min. uptime. It also seems to be abnormally sensitive to movement on my lap, and to temp. I have also reset the P[NV]RAM and the power manager. So the question is can I presume the HD is bad? If so should I presume the rest of the computer is okay? Do I need to just to get service? MacResq? Question: We all know Powerbooks are fragile and shouldn't be dropped. But Apple's recommendation is to always use it on a flat table and to never move while on. I have always used this computer in my lap. Also I put it in my back pack while sleeping. On occasion I have jogged with the computer, while bracing the bag some. So what do people think is reasonable use? I certainly don't think Apple's recommendations are reasonable, after all it is a laptop, isn't it? Jesse -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
