Hello all

I have a question, I thought someone here might be able to help me. I have a PowerBook and although I've had it for over a year, I just now have begun to try to burn a DVD. I have tried the Finder, Toast, and Burnz -- and all with no luck. The Finder does not even recognize blank DVD-Rs -- it simply ejects them back out. I have successfully burned many a CD using iTunes and Toast.

The PB info is:

Hardware Overview:

  Machine Model: PowerBook G4 15"
  CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.2)
  Number Of CPUs: 1
  CPU Speed: 1 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
  Memory: 512 MB
  Bus Speed: 133 MHz
  Boot ROM Version: 4.53f2
  Serial Number: XXXXXX
  Sales Order Number: XXXXXX

MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-815:

  Manufacturer: MATSHITA
  Model: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-815
  Revision: D0C4
  Serial Number:
  Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-R
  Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
  Removable Media: Yes
  Detachable Drive: No
  Protocol: ATAPI
  Unit Number: 0
  Socket Type: Internal

I have reformatted this PB, erasing the hard drive and starting over from scratch. I have a full install of Panther in it. I've used the Apple Hardware Diagnostic CD that came with it and it says everything -- including the Superdrive -- is peachy.

Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something? Or advice on how to further diagnose this problem? And any success with external DVD burners in case I've got a lemon drive here?

Thanks in advance for any help or comments.
