I to had this problem and then I visited the visor home page and got the
information that I needed.  First you must download and extract a program
called beamsync, I found this on www.palmgear.com.  Then you must download
and extract IrEnhancement from the palm website
(http://www.palm.com/support/downloads/irenhanc.html).  The readme file that
is included with the beamsync app tells you what you must do to get ir sync
working, it is very straight forward.  I had it up and running in about 10
mins.  

Users with Palm OS 3.5 don't have to download any third party apps, ir
syncing is part of the OS.
