I've installed this yesterday and it seemingly ended up jumbling my 1GHz powerbook OS 10.3.8. The installer reported a failure, while other installs initiated with "software update" went ahead fine (one of them after the security update, according to the logs).
I've seen no reports of complaints about this security update, so I assumed the problem being local, although I found no clear evidence of the reason from the logs. Some of the symptoms were crashes (at first) the failure to mount the other 3 partitions I have, the external FW drive and CDs & DVDs. I could not recover the OSX partition and (after backing up all the partitions by booting in FW disk mode, I tried archive and install from an original 10.3.5 DVD, which failed. I then went for clear and install which went through fine. Upped to 10.3.8 via software update, no prob. But now the iLife 05 installer crashes just as it starts installing (when it reaches the bit about online registration, etc). I tried iPhoto installer: crash. Garage Band went all the way through, only to tell me at the end that the install had failed. Any idea as to what's going on? Only thing I can think of, is I had replaced the bottom 256 MB RAM module with one of the exactly same type, same manufacturer, same everything (down to the sticker on it), except it is 512 MB. But I had, since the RAM upgrade, installed anew iLife with no problems and also fairly big programs such as Logic PRO, etc and the PB has given me no issues to deal with, until yesterday. It sounds like a fairly complex issue, so does anyone have suggestions about where to look (cryptic logs, etc) or what to do to toubleshoot this? I would not really think it's the RAM the issue here... I mean, OS X installed fine eventually... or? cheers, gianfranco -- Handyrechnung zu hoch?
