But this morning the machine did not want to start up. I had to
take out the HD (Travelstar, 30GB) and tap it. After doing that, it
started up just fine. So that means I need to find a means to
shield it?
I used a double edged razor blade as a 'shield' and have had no
problems since install

Try "Chimera", works great for me. Much better than Netscape 7 and IE.
