5.25 external Oxford 911/USB case

2003-12-28 Thread kahuna2
Looking for an external firewire/usb enclosure for a 5.25 device (Pioneer DVR-106 CD/DVD burner) to hook to my Pismo. Would like the Oxford 911 or 922 chipset on it. I'm finding non-oxford enclosures for $45 shipped, but the cheapest oxford I can find is about $75. Any suggestions/experiences?

Taking apart the brick

2003-02-12 Thread kahuna2
Has anyone disassembled an M4896 45W power supply for a 1400/3400/G3? Aka the brick aka Macintosh Powerbook 45W AC Adapter? The cover seems to split just fine until the 3-prong male side. I can't figure out what's keeping it from popping off. Used enough force that it should've broken, but

Wall-to-YoYo power cord?

2003-01-16 Thread kahuna2
Regarding the Pismo's YoYo power adapter, I think someone once mentioned you could get a power cord (the cord from the wall to the yoyo) from Radio Shack. True? If not, where can I get one, and what's the approx. cost either way? Thanks - Gene -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/

OT: Pricegrabber.com offline?

2002-12-21 Thread kahuna2
Sorry for the OT post. Does anyone here use Pricegrabber.com? Is it offline for the past 4-5 days? I've been unable to access it for that long. Will someone try it and let me know if it's my system or provider? Thanks - Gene -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Small Dog

DiskWarrior run time?

2002-12-19 Thread kahuna2
Tangerine iBook, OS 9.2.2, about 320MB RAM with what seems to be a hosed directory. I booted from a CD and am running DiskWarrior, and it's stuck on Step 6 - Rebuilding directory. The specific message says, Overlapped files detected. That's fine, but it's been chugging along at this step for over

Apple 17 Studio Display problem

2002-11-27 Thread kahuna2
Sort of OT, but it's connected to a Pismo! I have a 17 Apple Studio Display purchased in '99. It recently restarted (clicked on and off) a bunch of times, taking a little longer to get a picture and becoming a little more dim each time until it finally went black. The Pismo is fine, and the

Timbuktu on Pismo

2002-11-15 Thread kahuna2
OK, I'm stumped. Any Timbuktu on OS X experts out there? Running Timbuktu 6.0.2 on MacOS 10.2.2 on a Pismo 400Mhz, and can't connect to it on a local LAN from two OS 9 Macs also running Timbuktu 6.0.2. I can connect from the Pismo to the other two Macs, but every time I try to connect to the

Netgear MR314 vs MR814

2002-11-05 Thread kahuna2
Speaking of ABS alternatives, can anyone tell me what the difference is between Netgear's MR314 and the MR814? Other than styling and warranty (314 - 5yr, 814-3yr), I can't seem to figure out any difference. Even the pricing is similar. -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...

Portable color recommendations

3.5 Firewire enclosure

2002-09-18 Thread kahuna2
Anybody come across good deals recently on 3.5 Oxford 911 firewire enclosures lately? I looked at OWC and Firewire Depot and wasn't all that impressed with the prices. I got a 3.5 enclosure about 2 years ago for $60 from OWC, but I don't see anything like that now. (Although there is a 2.5

How new is your battery? That's damn good runtime for the amount of RAM as well as Airport. on 9/4/02 2:11 PM, Kevin Stevens wrote: I have exactly the same results with my Pismo, usually 3 - 3.5 hours but occasionally shorter. That's with 512MB and constant Airport usage, screen brightness

OT - G4 AGP question

2002-08-30 Thread kahuna2
Sorry for the OT, but I know there are techs on here who work on all models. Since it's OT, please respond off-list. I don't have a G4 in my possession, so I can't easily check this myself: Can a second CD drive be installed on a PowerMac G4 AGP in the optical media bay, or is that prevented by
