Hi:

I personally prefer the QPS cd burners... they're well-built (unlike
LaCie IMHO), competitively priced and Mac supported out of the box. QPS
is in Chapter 7 re-org (or something like that) at the moment which is
a little scary but they seem to be coming out of it just fine (I think
someone else either bought them or invested in them). Anyhow, I have
about fifteen of their drives and they work great.

OS X supports cd-burning out of the box so you don't necessarily need
additional software to support cd-burning... that is, as long as OS X
supports your drive... check out the OS X page on apple.com, there's
got to be a list somewhere of supported drives... and they continue to
support MORE drives with each successive OS X release (for example,
10.2.4 explicitly states in the read me that it adds support for LaCie
48X burners).

The QPS drives come with CharisMac Discribe bundled (at least they did)
if you want to check out what third-party cd burning software can do
for you. You should then go and download the latest version of Discribe
off Charismac's web site (although you'll have to call tech support to
get the passcode to decrypt the archive).

For folks who want to view/convert AVI's, go to versiontracker.com and
search for "AVI" and you'll find whatever you need.

enjoy! ... e
