I need to get a fairly good flatbed scanner to hook up to my Powerbook's
firewire connector... can anyone suggest a model?
I'm sorry if this is off list...

Addendum - Epson has a 2450 refurbished on their site for $319.00

I purchased a Umax Astra 6400 Firewire flatbed scanner, which was really
fast, but didn't do the high quality scans that I need for my photographic
work so I got an Epson. The Astra is much less expensive, but my Epson does
a much better job.

Ed,
I, too, use a Pismo. I've been very pleased with my Umax Astra 6400
flatbed scanner. It's big and ugly, but it is fast and gave me great
quality results. Max resolution 1200x1200 DPI (though some report
1200x600 DPI, I did not find that to be true). I paid well over $200
for it from
First $100 plus shipping takes mine! Like new, in box.
