I've been emailing korben, author of open source MacStumbler, and offering him money and he has so far resisted me. What follows is his reply that I apologize for cross-posting. I think the need for a good 8.x and 9.x MacStumbler is worthy of a moon shot effort.
How do we do this? "None of the MacStumbler code is portable over to OS 9, it's all cocoa (objective-c) and the airport API under OS 9 is probably completely different. Since I know almost nothing about programming under OS 9 and since I never use it myself, I'm not planning on ever making an OS 9 version of MacStumbler. There is another app you can try called AP Scanner, you can find it at http://homepage.mac.com/typexi/Personal1.html . I don't mind if you put the idea of a port out there, but keep in mind none of the code will translate over, writing a port means starting from scratch. Also, the MacStumbler code is released under the GNU Public License (GPL) which basically means any project based on it's code must also publish it's code pubically, and may not charge a fee for distributing it. So if someone writes a program based on some of MacStumbler's code, they can't charge for it. I may end up fooling around with stuff in OS 9 and maybe create something halfway functional, but I don't like to give any guarantees. That's mainly the reason I decided not to ask for any money for MacStumbler, I'm just a student and I don't have a lot of time to support people who feel they're entitled to updates, etc because they payed money. -korben" Is there some one who can do a MacStumbler for us? dh -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
