There was a member who posted difficulties installing os 9 from a standard
installer cd on his (or her) iBook (or powerbook). I suggested that after
the applecare service, Apple may have put in a new rom not allowing for OS 9
boot.

Problem with that reasoning now is that those machines still allow for a
classic install.

Ironically, I just ran into the problem myself when I upgraded a pb G4 667
to an 80 gig drive. The os 9 (9.2.1 to be exact) CD would boot, but not
install.

Many hours later...aha...these era machines all require 9.2.2, and you can
not start with 9.2.1 then upgrade as I have been doing for years. Must have
a 9.2.2 install from the get go.

My solution was to boot the 667 into firewire target mode, link to my
utterly up-to-date g4, 40 gig hd, 1 gig ram Pismo running 10.3.3 and 9.2.2
(yeah, I'm proud of it ;)) and just copy the entire system, docs and
applications for os 9 folders directly over to the 667. Had tried ccc but
apparently still have not mastered that thing, whereas the direct
copy...worked like a charm.

Anybody know of a clear, step by step manual for ccc? The info on the site
itself seems confusing to me, introductory at best, and the notes I've found
on the web are not clear. Just a step by step in detail.
