I used a Garmin Etrex gps feeding position data to DeLorme Street
Atlas software running on a Pismo while I hauled my fifth wheel
trailer around. Worked just fine.

Please, don't take this as Mac bashing. I'm a Mac geek clear through
to the bone. BUT, I switched to a pc laptop because the Street Atlas
software is NEVER going to be updated for Macs and the pc version of
Street Atlas has more features than than the Mac version and is
updated regularly. I wouldn't have switched just for the gps, but
then I found that connecting to the internet through my Verizon cell
phone is do-able on the pc but not my Pismo. So, I picked up a Sony
laptop on ebay. Sony stuff is almost as good as Mac stuff, So, the
pc gets used when I'm spending some winter months in the southwest.
All the rest of the year it sits on a shelf, pining for the fjords of
Gatesville.

That is incorrect that you cannot connect Verizon to the Pismo. I had been using my Verizon cell phone for several years on my Pismo to get my email when travelling. You just have to make an adapter for the serial plug. There used to be instructions on the verizon site for doing that. I have a pdf file on my computer that gives instructions and there is a driver available for the cellphone to be used as a modem.

Currently I am using my Verizon on my G4 but am now using a Keyspan adapter go go through the UBS port..

I have also been using the PC version of Street Atlas for serveral years on my MAC powerbooks but I use it through Virtual PC. I have used three different GPS units over the years and currently use a Garmin III+. The Powerbook sits next to me on trips and Steet Atlas (PC version) runs just fine.

I agree that the Mac version of Street Atlas (that I also have) doesn't cut it when compared to the PC version.
