Hi gang, I'm still hunting a HD for my new-to-me wallstreet, and I've seen so many macmall, outpost, ebay, etc ads for HDs that I pretty much know how much or little I'll have to spend on the unit--
but I can't understand why a firewire or USB external 40gb HD, that comes in a cool case, runs at 7200rpm, comes with free software and cute accessories, etc, etc, is $20-30 less than: an internal HD for powerbooks that is 10gb lighter, (20 or 30 gb) has no bracket, just the HD itself, runs at 5400 rpm? could it be that they sell more external hard drives? It's killing me to spend any more money on this wallstreet after writing my thesis to the list and getting back some astute and sage advice. But, if I keep this gal, she must have a new hard drive. 4gb is just not enough, and to get the speed boost, it looks as though you must go up to at least 30gb to get to the 5400 rpm club. Decisions, decisions. I should just spend on impulse. Less stressful that way. I remember when the war department and I bought a minivan for the family. (I've got seven kids-- two boys, five girls, just like the VonTrapp family) We did so much shopping and price comparing that-- well, all the joy of spending money just vanished. We got the right model (Dodge Caravan SE) but I will never ever drive myself crazy buying an auto like that again. Yet, it seems I'm doing it again on this Hard drive purchase...... AHRGHH!! I think I'll pull my Emily Dickinson poetry book off the shelf. My best stress reduction technique. "... skies of molten blue... tell all the truth, but tell it slant..."
