Gearheads like egg cartons, screws go in the little cups, larger parts go in the lid. I start at one end and fill the cups in order then reverse the sequence on reassembly.
The cardboard cartons are preferred since the cardboard soaks up the oil (only significant if you have one of the early steam powered powerbooks).
