I've had the same problem on the Lombard 333 and found the culprits to be
Netscape/Mozilla cache files (which were encripted). I wiped them clean
and was able to index, albeit not in a blitz (it took some time). On the
1GHz TiBook, indexing is fast even with fully loades cache. You might want

churning. Knew it would take some time, but this is absurd. Not
possible to reattempt indexing without trashing files in
Libraries/Indexes/findbycontent. Have successfully indexed specific
directories. Have repaired permissions (iteratively), checked other
maintenance routines, switched
