Well, I don't know if you can airport directly between computers, but
an easy way would be to link them with a crossover ethernet cable,
You can do it wirelessly too. Have one of them set up it's own airport
network, then have the other connect to it.
I don't know any of your details as far as OS versions you are running,
making it a little hard to go into more detail...

Yes. You will have to configure one of them as the base station for the
other, though.

have wireless cards in both books
tried to set up the network, selected computer to computer but
they couldn't see each other. I didn't open the network
