I agree.  I love leaving my laptop (encased in a cushioned innersleeve)
in a cheap looking Eastsport backpack.  When it sits in the back seat
of my 1985 Plymouth Gran Fury, the whole setup says anything but "big
expensive laptop here."  And the cheap setup works! I accidentally
knocked it down a set of metal fire escape stairs, and didn't hurt a
thing (except my heart which did not beat once until the bag landed at
the bottom...)
