After further study and comparison with a 12 inch iBook and a 15 inch PowerBook I have determined the following:
1) No surface be it desk, countertop, coffee table, dining table, etc.is exactly level/flat across it's entire surface.
2) The 15 inch PB does not wobble at all on the same surfaces that the 12 inch PB does.
3) Moving the 12 inch PowerBook around in various positions on the particular surface one finds spots where it wobbles and spots where it doesn't.
3) The 12 inch iBook wobbles in the same way as the 12 inch PowerBook on the same variety of surfaces which I sampled. Also, it doesn't wobble in the same places that the 12 inch PB doesn't when moved around.
4) The occasional wobbling (dependent on location on the particular surface) exhibited by the 12 inch PB & iB is due the fact that the smaller size accentuates the unevenness of the various surfaces.
5) The 15 inch PB used for comparison does not exhibit this wobbling due it's greater size/footprint, this causing it to be less sensitive to unevenness of the particular surface.
6) The position of the rubber feet on the 12 PB out near the very corners of the machine and their small size contribute to the perceived problem. In contrast the 12 inch iB feet are larger and better positioned which allows the iB to wobble slightly less than the 12 inch PB but it still does wobble in a similar fashion.
In closing I would ask that my study be 'peer reviewed' to help to confirm these findings. Move your 12 inch PB around on the table in various positions and you will surely see spots where it does wobble and spots where it does not.
I do not believe that there is anything wrong with our machines but there is definitely something wrong with our table tops. :o)
This issue was disconcerting to me so I decided to check it out further. I hope this helps anyone else who is having a similar issue or concern.
Thanks William
ORIGINAL POST:
Slight wobble in 12 inch G4 PB when sitting on a flat surface.
All four of the rubber feet are in, none missing. It appears that all are not even. When sitting on a flat surface 3 of the feet will touch but 1 doesn't. The one that doesn't touch is the one on the battery. The gap is very small - 1-2 mm. As I have the unit up on a tilt thingy most of the time it is not noticeable. I only noticed it last night when I placed it on my desk.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any cause for concern?
Thanks
William
