iBook dilema

VHS to DVD

I have a ton of movies on VHS tape(doesn't everybody?) I would like to get them on DVD. How can I rip VHS movies to DVD and is there a program (such as Mac the Ripper for VHS) that will decode VHS and make them usable to transfer to DVD? Ant advice would be appreciated.
