Do you currently run El Capitan on a Core 2 Duo system? If so, how well
does it perform? How responsive is it?

Perhaps. But this 35 pass nonsense is not even a proper standard. It's
more of an intellectual excise built around drive technologies.

opy of Lion. I would
suggest you go ahead and get it even if you don't intend to use it
now. Just download it and archive it for some future date when you may
well want to upgrade to Lion. You may want to do so in the future if
only because support for Snow Leopard will eventually be drop
annoying due to the extra demand placed on the CPU. While I
don't know that the discrete NVIDIA video used in later MacBooks would
perform any better, I'd still suggest going that route if you can
rather than getting an older MacBook which uses Intel's integrated
video.

I can't give you buying advice. I have no idea if one is better than
another or if it will even work on your G4 MDD. But maybe someone else
can jump in to help with that.

the "bottom" delete button works. Ever since I installed the non-beta
Safari 4.0, the "top" delete button in gmail usually doesn't work.
I think installing the 4.0.1 update fixed that. Hope so because it's
annoying.
But I digress ...
