Hello,

My first post to this group, although I've been a reader of lowendmac
for about four years. I upgraded my 466mhz DA to a 1 ghz sonnet
encore, but have intermittent problems getting the mac to boot. I did
the firmware update per sonnet's instructions, but I had to boot from
a 0s9 disk since this mac only has an os9 system folder to boot into
classic. I have recently read that you are supposed to have os9
installed on a writeable hd, but this doesn't agree with sonnets's
info that came with the processor. The firmware shown under system
profile shows the correct upgrade on the mac now, so I'm baffled. I
contacted sonnet and they recommended a new pram battery which I have
done (from owc). Then sonnet suggested that I have one with a bad
processor and to return to the vendor (B&H Photo) for warranty.
Sonnet said they were getting out of the upgrade business, so I got
the feeling they were washing their hands of it. I really like this
mac and have done some ram and cd/dvd burner upgrades, so I'd like to
give it my best shot to get the upgrade working especially since
these are hard to find these days. I've tried a p+r+option+command
boot, and once this worked. When it boots, it is sometimes had to
shutdown requiring the use of the power button. Any ideas of other
things to try? thanks swede
