Ah, thanks for reminding me about the good old swaplist. I have two
Pismos with identical DVD-ROM drives with identical fussiness, but I
think they're Matsushita and not LG.

I think I did update the firmware to the latest one I could find. It's
not even a burner, just a DVD-ROM drive. I suppose the first thing is
to try a cleaning disc, since it might just work.
Failing that, it's not that expensive to get a DVD reader or even a
burner.

Get a new optical drive. The old ones suck anyways. I have two powermac g4's
both with stock apple DVD drives. Both of these drives will read DVDs, just
not cd's very well.-Jonas
