Certainly, the dust check is the first thing to do.
I've had several MDDs using (without problems) this free developer
software:
CHUD Tools 3.5.2. Later versions of CHUD don't seem to work for this
purpose.
Install then access via System Preferences. You can allow nap mode
and single processor

Apple's PSUs are pretty good, but they are obviously built to a
competitive price point. Usually in Hong Kong, Taiwan or, now, mainland
China.
NO high-cost components as would be found on, say, an IBM mainframe
