Same issue for me but it was for a printer connected serially (a point of sale printer) I used the serial component, created an instance and WRITE to it directly. I did this with computers with serial ports and without where I used a USB to serial converter. Works wonderful.
As for parallel, for direct chars out, I think it is easier to use a USB to parallel port converter and WRITE chars to the USB port. This is closest to the old QB days of direct printing.
