Yup, you're right on both counts, Bryan...It is a cool game...(sigh)

I used the link here, and it still gave me the run time error...So, I
guess it just doesn't work on post XP machines?...Thanks for the help
though, and please let me know if anyone comes up with an

I have to disagree here.
The gear ratio directly affects acceleration versus top speed, as I have
mirrored the physics of this in Rail Racer.
A higher ratio on the input gear results in less input torque, but higher
overall output rotation speed, resulting in higher top rotation speed to the

Don't worry about it, I'll host it.
I've actually had the thought of using the exact same file format for

Hi Ken,
Actually, the gear ratio doesn't have anything to do with the amount
of acceleration of the car. That has to do with the power curve of the
engine, how much horsepower is available, and how much torque is
available at the moment. Once you know those things you can easily
divide the availab

Ken,
The acceleration thing you're talking about is more a side effect of
the nonlinear power curve of engines, where they produce much higher
power at certain RPMs than you would expect from a linear graph. It's
got nothing to do with the gears; the gears are just a fixed ratio

I'm looking for the formula for the coding of shifting of gears. That is, when
you're in fourth gear you don't accelerate unless already going fast and so on.
Any thoughts?
