Hi Thomas,
Yes, I was just using JFW with my Accent SA. It is a serial connection and
some day I might just have to try loading up JFD and see if I can't get the XP
command prompt to emulate old dos so that those old speech friendly dos games
will speak as they were written to.

Hi Jim,
Good luck. I am not sure how well those dos drivers would work under an
NT based environment. NT based drivers are written differently from the
way the old dos and Windows 9x drivers were written. Though, it would be
an interesting experiment all the same.

Hi Trouble,
Actually the old dos Meal Master program still performs print jobs for me.
That could be though because I'm still running my 1989, Panasonic KX-P1180, 9
pin, dot matrix printer. I've got to tell you I was plenty pleasantly
surprised when the Windows XP Printer Wizard listed and
Hi,
When you talk about using Accent SA to play dos games I'd be interrested
if you are doing that using Jaws for Windows or Jaws for Dos under XP.
JFW supports the XP command/Dos Window, and that is the only way I have
to access the command line for dos apps any more.
Though I am interested to

I have a external keynote gold sa however there is no com port on
this here desktop, and I doubt unless I can load dos somehow on my xp
box or get emulator access in the command window, or use dosbox or
something that that would work.
Yeah windows is nice about older hardware.

Hi Shaun,
Yeah, the serial devices are going out of use just like the parallel
devices started going a few years back. New desktops and laptops aren't
shipping with them, and if they do, they are very few and far between.
Anyway, we are straying off of gaming and getting to general tech chit
Hi Trouble,
I hate to disagree with you but I still use dos and run dos applications all
the time. Even write and run dos batch files such as
@echo off
cd\program files\microsoft visual studio\vb98
or
@echo off
copy baseball.vbp c:\jim\basicbak\*.* /v
copy baseball.vbw c:\jim\basicbak\*.* /v
yeah, you can run dos commands on xp, but not programs that access
hardware. With vista, witch is what ever company and org is giving
the disabled. no its out.
So its pretty much up to you wither you want to tell people that
aren't tech's how to run them or not.
i like your games and don't have
Hi Thomas,
Yes, I doubt that I would have copped an attitude if like you have done now,
researched and stated that all older games are going to have this problem
rather than seeming to single out my games. I mean look at the subject line of
this thread. I have seen people on this list be
you bring up a good point Tom. With vista the standards have changed
on how things are done. Not just the few games you found have the
save problem, but many out there will have that problem.
On another list a problem was with a console program in c++ on vista.
it was solved with installing the
Hi Jim,
First, my apologies for singling you out. In the future if I have an
issue I will write you off list privately rather than publically making
a statement as I have done. That will save not only end user confusion,
but you and I can hopefully work together towards a common goal rather
thats true.
I myself will upgrade when I have to.
since I don't really work in an office or anything It may be ages

I use xp and it suits my needs for now.
Eventually when I really need to get something faster than this
2.4ghz system I may upgrade, even then I may
Hi Thomas,
I'm thinking that this would be the same for any and all games that write to a
file such as a save game file, a log file, a records file or whatever right?
As far as I know just about every single game does this. So I am thinking that
this is not a problem with my games, but a

I've just tested this with several other games and you are correct.
Allot of older accessible games are going to

Hi,
First, i think I should clarify a couple of things. Just in case anyone
gets confused here is clearer explanation of what I was talking about.
In Windows Vista all applications typically save their settings in the
c:\Users\User Name\App Data folder,
which use to be the

Hi Jim and all,
I'm writing to let you know I discovered an issue with all of your games
under Vista you might want to be advised of. It is a rather nasty bug,
but there are solutions to the problem. Though, unless you plan to make
changes in your applications to fix it the bug will remain
