You guys probably think I'm in a bad mood today. To be honest I've been on pain killers all day and have a shorter temper than usual. I am thinking of playing Shades of Doom to get rid of some of my tention.
In any case the purpose of this email is mainly meant as a suggestion, by no means is this a new rule. I hope we don't have to make it a rule. So please take it as a gentle reminder from your friendly co-moderator in some slight pain. 1. When someone asks a question it's just a given that usually more than one person will reply to that question. This is of course how lists work. What my suggest is about is sending out thank you messages. Believe me, thank you messages do in fact make the person feel appreciated for the information however sending thank you messages to each person who answered a question can quickly tie up a list. By that definition, thank you messages are off topic. I realize that is a grey area regarding netiquette and topical messages. Since my previous message shows outlook users how to get email addresses of list members then why not send that person a private message thanking them for the help? No one will think less of any list member if a thank you message is not sent on list. 2. It's not very good netiquette to write one liner messages like, thank you, i agree, where, sure, why, who, where do I get it?, etc. The sad truth is one liner messages are usually waistful and serve no purpose. For example messages about someone agreeing or disagreeing with a topic are a total waste unless the message also contains perhaps a reason as to the agreement or disagreement. Messages giving a web page and nothing else to let us know about a new game are also mostly a waste because people will most likely be interested in going to the site in reference if at least a paragraph is written telling us about this new game or what ever. So, in short, let's try to lay off the thank you and otherwise one liner messages. -- Fame may be fleeting but obscurity is forever. Raul A. Gallegos ...
