You can rest everywhere that is marked safe, and save your games at
the same spots. As far as saving items that you don't want to carry
around on your person the only way to do that is take them to your
house in Dernsig and store them there.

You can make changes
At the top of each screen is a section number.
When you see that that section number has the word safe before it, then
you can save and rest there, it's that symple.
Go and check at the gates of Trythic, the main square in hawklor, (and most
other towns and villages), and at the start
there.
