sorry that I have ignored you :-) Definitely, I am very much
interested to have a mechanism to insert metrics from non-Ganglia
clients into the stream. And, surprise surprise, SNMP is on top of the
list.
Just time does not allow to dig deeper into this.

No responses to my initial posting. Anyone else interested in using Ganglia
to monitor SNMP devices? One of our systems experts has already produced a
first version of an SNMP ganglia metric generator!
