I used to something like this with 3.1 to monitor switches via SNMP. I
had a separate gmond running on one node with a separate config file and
pid file (-c -p ). I had a different mcast address and port.
A cron job ran a script the eventually sent metrics about my switches to
the extra gmond.

I'm using Ganglia to monitor a virtualized environment. I have Gmond
running on each of my Hosts, and I explicitly don't want Ganglia to run in
my VMs.
I am collecting various metrics from the Host and using Gmetric spoof to
send metrics on behalf of the VMs. The VMs metrics are sent to the l
