The GSIC Titech Grid Project, which begain in 2001, deployed a hierarchical campus-wide grid of clusters to support advanced scientific computing across dozens of university departments. (very similar to the UC Berkeley Millenium Project)
Titech Grid is composed of small 16 linux clusters called grid satellite and IBM Regatta p670(AIX and Linux), each grid satellite is composed of 12 Linux boxes.
