Vir Sanghvi, Editor of Hindustan Times has interviewed the Dalai Lama, the spiritual head of Tibetans. The interview was published in the Sunday Hindustan Times, Lucknow, on June 26, 2005. The views of Dalai Lama are interesting and very positive. I reproduce below the extracts.
Q by Vir Sanghvi: Does the religious leader of Tibetan Budhism reject his religion's views of morality?
Answer by Dalai Lama: Absolutely. Moral ethics are universal. So, Budhism is against homosexuality. But I believe that if there is love, compassion and consent, then it is all right.
Q.: What about pre-marital sex?
A.: In Budhism and in many other religions, they have sex only as a means of procreation, of production. I don't believe that. One American has asked me -" is it all right to it with the mouth, with the hand, in the wrong hole ---" I always say the same thing. If it involves compassion, if it is safe and if there is mutual consent, then there is nothing wrong.
