Simon Wright has determined the problem and notes that GNAT has
failed to recognise the actual problem.

This problem doesn't occur for compile only.
It occurs when I Build All from GPS

Correction

should have been:

This is quite old and long forgotten.
I am now using El Capitan on a newer Mac and haven't needed to build GCC so I
think this can be closed.
Unfortunately, gcc-bugzilla won't let me
