Bug ID: 93815 Summary: wrong plural translation for format string diagnostics Product: gcc Version: 10.0 Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: c Assignee: unassigned at gcc dot gnu.org Reporter: roland.illig at gmx dot de Target Milestone: --- From c-family/c-format.c: > "unquoted sequence of %i consecutive " > "punctuation characters %q.*s in format", > nchars, nchars, format_chars); This translation contains a plural form "characters" in English. Since nchars is always > 1, it probably made sense to have a single string for this case. For German, French and Swedish, this works as well. But Russian has more than one plural form.[1] These four languages are the main translations of GCC[2], nevertheless GCC should go the correct path and provide a correct plural translation for its messages, using a variant of ngettext instead of gettext.
