Can we close this?
I think we can. If someone has precise input on how we can make -fbounds-check
even faster, please reopen this PR with extra details.

This is MUCH faster now on 4.2.0:
Can we close this?
(My guess is that this was fixed by the write_only patch
by Richard Guenther).

Confirmed on i686-linux for mainline. The option that triggers this problem is
-fbounds-check.
