You should not build inside the source directory, do
mkdir obj
cd obj
../configure
make
instead. And quote also the gcc invocation from the internal compiler error.
You may also want to try gcc 4.2.3 which was jus

just did
./configure
and then
make.

i installed gcc3.4.6 from the sun freeware site.
and i just invoked make without any arguments.
